Guide to the best beaches of Pelion

The amazing Mount Pelion close to Volos Town in the mainland of Greece, is a lovely tourist destination, combining mountainous and sea landscape. Boasting some of the most stunning and unique beaches, it is ideal for peaceful and leisure holidays.

The best beaches of Pelion are mostly found in the eastern side of the area. There are many resorts with Pelion beach houses close to amazing shores with crystal blue waters and verdant mountainous backdrop.

Mylopotamos

Mylopotamos, located at a short distance from Tsagarada village, is one of the most popular beaches of Pelion. It is surrounded by fascinating scenery with impressive white pebbles, pine trees and a passage of rocks that divides the beach in two.

Mylopotamos is an organized retreat with umbrellas and sun beds for rent and few lovely taverns. It is an ideal beach for snorkeling, diving and other adventurous water activities.

 

Horefto

One of the longest beaches of Pelion, Horefto is situated on its eastern coast and is actually the beach of Zagora village. This is a magnificent beach with fine white sand and deep blue sea. The setting of the beach is serene, allowing tourists the chance to unwind and have a relaxing swim.

Horefto is an organized beach and provides visitors with many facilities. Next to Horefto are also some smaller, scenic beaches that offer privacy and quietness.

 

Agios Ioannis

Found on the northern part of Pelion, Agios Ioannis is a fascinating tourist place with great natural beauty. Its beautiful beach is surrounded by a verdant setting of pine trees and has greyish sand, soft pebbles and crystal clear waters.

Agios Ioannis is a very popular resort and gets crowded in summer. It is ideal for families, offering a lot of Pelion beach houses along the coast. Many other facilities are provided, including taverns, mini markets, canoe and other water sports.

 

Damouhari

Pelion Damouchari is a lovely natural harbour, the only on the Aegean part of Pelion, and is a charming destination. The impressive landscape is made up of beautiful trees, a stony morphology and amazing emerald waters.

Famous for its twin coves, Damouhari beach is the perfect spot for a peaceful swim, as it is untouched by mass tourism. The beach has big, round, white pebbles and is also ideal for camping. Around the area there are also some lovely accommodation options, providing immediate access to the marvelous beach.

 

Mourtias

Mourtias is located on the south eastern coast of Pelion and has a magnificent red coloured rock landscape and crystal blue-green waters. This is an unorganized small bay, ideal for a relaxing swim and undisturbed sunbathing. The beach is sandy, but, at some parts, there are a few rocks that create spectacular formations. Mourtias is one of the best beaches of Pelion and it is easily accessed from the nearby villages of Lyri and Katigiorgis.
